The Gambia's volume of importation has been hovering around an average of GMD7,628,573,000 between 2005 and 2010 and has since been increasing.
These fluctuations have been driven by the main sectors of agriculture, industry and services. Agriculture sector has experience a negative growth rate for three years in a row between 2005 and 2007. In 2008, the sector improved and grew at a rate of 26.0% but immediately contracted over the following three years, registering a negative growth rate of -24.2%.
Year-on-year overall index has by 8.4% from June 2016 to June 2017 with a corresponding Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages increased by 9.0%.
